Credit where it is due

Two small software suppliers have received three-star accreditation as "best-practice" employers.

According to an accreditation scheme run by consultancy Best Companies, Data Connection and Rackspace Managed Hosting were rated more highly by their employees than any other hardware or software company operating in the UK.

The firms, which hired Best Companies to survey their employees, achieved better scores than some highly-rated larger IT employers.

Data Connection and Rackspace Managed Hosting gained three stars, beating Microsoft's "outstanding" two stars and Fujitsu Siemens' "first-class" one star, as their staff thought they were consistently good across all criteria.

Employees were asked for opinions on their line managers, their team, the overall leadership of the company, prospects for personal development, whether they felt stressed, whether their employers made a positive contribution to society, the level of engagement they had with their employers and how content they were with their pay.
