Supply chain efficiency and improved customer service are the key business priorities for European transportation companies, with IT playing a key role, according to analyst IDC.

Supply chain efficiency and improved customer service are the key business priorities for European transportation companies, with IT playing a key role, according to analyst IDC.

IDC surveyed airlines, railways, logistics service providers and public transport organisations in the survey, which sought to measure key aims for this year.

Ivano Ortis, an analyst at IDC, said, "A common issue across all transport sub-segments is the need to cope with limited capacity and challenging infrastructure development programmes.

“Therefore the ability to maximise asset utilisation will be fundamental to achieving positive business performance in the short term."

IDC said transportation companies would focus on supply chain efficiency, customer service enhancements and product innovation to improve their bottom line.

IT organisation responsiveness, human resources management efficiency, and business performance monitoring would be used to improve their overall performance, said the firm.
