Microsoft is planning to ship its continuous data back-up solution System Centre Data Protection Manager in the next 30 days.

Already available in beta form, Data Protection Manager allows companies to back up business critical information onto hard disks rather than more expensive and harder to manage tape systems.

Microsoft said that Data Protection Manager also allowed end-users to retrieve files on their own, without the involvement of IT staff, leading to time and cost savings.

At an estimated retail price of £540, which includes one server licence and the management licences to protect three file servers, Data Protection Manager is designed to make high-quality data back-up technology more affordable.
