Yahoo is overhauling its free web e-mail service, which will now work more like a desktop e-mail client.
The new features of the beta service include message previewing and drag-and-drop filing. Yahoo users will be able to participate in a beta programme in coming weeks and general availability will follow later this year.
Users will be able to stick with their existing e-mail view or move over to the new one.
The data storage limit for the free Yahoo service will stay at 1Gbyte. The company recently gave its users the facility to set up a storage space to allow their friends and family to view and share pictures, music and other files.
Yahoo is in competition with the likes of AOL, Google and MSN to improve its e-mail services in attempt to boost portal visits and generate more advertising revenue.
