A survey by virtualisation specialist C&C Technology Consulting has found that just over a third of companies have only an average knowledge of virtualisation and that just under half are actually using the technology to their advantage.

The survey focused on current industry perceptions and usage of virtualisation technologies and was completed by 50 professionals in the IT community, ranging from IT directors to network managers.

C&C believes the survey demonstrates huge potential in the UK for companies to adopt the benefits of virtualisation, such as cost and legacy system integration.

Richard Gigg, sales and marketing director at C&C, says, "We conducted the survey to find out whether virtualisation is on the IT agenda, how aware the industry is of the benefits and what their implementation plans are over the next year.

“Virtualisation technology is something every IT manager should be considering. The technology offers great cost saving and operational benefits to companies. Virtualising the server environment reduces the physical server estate, hence reducing the need for power and cooling and subsequently the associated costs."
