Of the 185 companies polled, 71% broke even, compared to 72% who made a profit last year. The research found that websites with funding of less than £1,000 were not profitable, but 53% of firms planned to invest in website development.
"The results indicate a growing maturity in the SME e-commerce sector," said Chris Barling, chief executive of Actinic. "Companies now regard the internet as more important to their business than they did in 2002."
