The Bavarian State Government has awarded BT Ignite a contract to restructure its entire telecommunications network. The contract - the largest deal BT has scooped outside the UK - is worth up to £133m over a seven-year period.

BT will install network links to 2,000 locations across Bavaria based on multi- protocol label switching technology to provide both voice and data services. The managed network service is based on IP technology.

BT Ignite president Europe and chief of operations Jean-Yves Charlier said: "It is further evidence that BT is regarded as an international player with a strong presence in Germany and confirms our ability to meet the complex telecommunications needs of multi-site organisations.

"We look forward to establishing a long-term close working relationship with the Bavarian State Government."
