The overall aim of the www.budgenstechnical.com site is to reduce administration and paperwork for both Budgens and its suppliers, and to speed up and improve the product development procedure.
The site gives the firm's own-label manufacturers access to the documentation needed to ensure that their products comply with relevant UK and EU legislation, as well as Budgens' requirements. Other useful links to organisations, such as the Food Standards Agency, are also provided.
The site is divided into four sections covering food and non-food produce and beers, wines and spirits. On registration, suppliers are given a unique password that takes them on to a section site where they can download relevant documents and then return the required information online.
Jonathan Bayne, technical controller at Budgens, said the company's own-label range is expanding rapidly and the launch of the site was a "necessary and very important move".
"For every new product we develop there is a lot of legally required donkey-work," he said. "Our own-label range is going from strength to strength and the new site will streamline the development process and help us to deliver new products on the shelf more efficiently."
