Demand for European desktop virtualisation services and sales are doubling every 12 months, according a study commissioned by Citrix. The study revealed European based providers of the vendor's products expect compound annual growth of 99% to occur between 2008 and 2012.

Node4 builds new Northampton data centre
A new Northampton-based data centre will serve the financial services industry, and other local businesses, from next year on. The facility is being built by Node4, which already has data centres in Derby and Wakefield. Node4 said "two High Street banks" have signed up to use its data hosting services, so far. The site will be 41,000 square feet and will house multiple servers across 720 racks.

Third-gen 10GbE converged networking portfolio from QLogic
QLogic has announced the third generation of its 10GbE converged networking portfolio. Code named "3GCNA," the portfolio is based on the vendor's Network Plus Architecture. It features new products, including 8200 Series 10GbE converged network adapters, 3200 Series 10GbE intelligent Ethernet adapters and a converged LAN-on-motherboard (cLOM) solution.

Norfolk Country Council goes virtual with BT

Public sector budget slashes expected, according to VMware survey
Public sector managers said they will not be able to slash IT budgets without hitting the front-line services, according to a survey by VMware. According to the poll, commissioned by VMware, a 22.5% cut on IT spending is anticipated. Councils, hospitals and schools will have to find 3.6 billion pounds in savings from annual IT budgets by 2013 to meet government targets, respondents told the polling group ComRes.
