From HP to Microsoft, and plenty of vendors inbetween, there are many backing the hybrid cloud as the approach that customers will be taking for the forseeable future.
Amazon Web Services might like the phrase "all in" to encourage firms to move wholesale to a hosted environment but most firms are years away from that, if they ever get there.
Most will continue to operate a mixed on-premise and cloud model and it is with that in mind that Dimension Data has teamed up with EMC to form the Catalyst Alliance.
The Alliance will involve the two firms jointly marketing hybrid cloud solutions in a way that will reduce risk for users with flexible pricing on the storage, cloud and managed services offerings.
The channel players quoted IDC's vice president of datacenter and cloud research Rick Villars who commented thatb a lot of customers had developed ad hoc hybrid environments and now needed some help taking the next steps towards a more coherent strategy without upsetting what was already in place.
"Partnerships like Dimension Data and EMC’s Catalyst Alliance that facilitate companies' cloud time-to-value while reducing the risk of disruption in IT operations will help companies move from beyond simply having a hybrid set of clouds to enacting a sound, diversified cloud strategy," he said.
The distributor will work with EMC and both will provide sales staff and marketing specialists to help customers choose the best technology.
Steve Nola, Dimension Data’s Group Executive for IT-as-a-Service, said: “The Catalyst Alliance will help clients realise the benefits of hybrid cloud that will be used to serve core business applications anywhere in the world."
"By combining EMC’s technology leadership with Dimension Data’s extensive services portfolio and global reach, clients are able to accelerate their growth, creating value for their customers and financial returns for their shareholders," he added.
In response, Jay Snyder, senior vice president, Global Alliances at EMC Corporation, said that the world was changing and customers needed to be presented with more choices.
“This disruption is creating transformational opportunity. Businesses across all industries are swiftly moving to reinvent themselves for a new Digital Age, where technology is used to grow, innovate, enhance customer relationships and make employees more productive. This alliance will enable those transformations both through scale and speed," he said.
