EMC has added software and storage products to its Clariion range designed to make it easier for IT departments to scale up and manage their storage.

Barry Ader, senior director, Clariion platforms marketing, said, "The new Ultrapoint technology helps customers isolate and resolve disc drive issues quickly, scale up from mid-range environments to large ones, and maintain high availability features."

EMC has also released virtualisation software - Clariion Virtual LUN - which lets storage managers shift storage volumes within a Clariion CX system without having to take down applications. It can be used when setting up tiered storage, moving data from a fibre channel to an ATA drive, or when introducing drive technology, said Ader.

EMC has also doubled the performance and back-up and recovery speeds of its Disk Library products, which use buffering to attain transfer speeds of up to 4Tbytes an hour.
