Computer Associates is to buy IT management and governance software company Niku for around $350m (£189m).

CA is already re-selling Niku’s Clarity IT-MG software, which helps IT managers evaluate investments and measure IT project success.

Clarity will be incorporated into CA's Unicenter product line and most of Niku’s, almost 300, employees will join CA’s Business Service Optimisation (BSO) unit.

CA said Niku’s current business will operate in much the same way as it does now once the acquisition is completed.

In the last financial year ended 31 January Niku posted a net profit of $4m (£2.1m) on sales of over $66m.
