MySQL has released a beta version of a major upgrade to its open source database, which includes improved enterprise features.

The MySQL 5.0.3 beta is available from MySQL’s website and offers improved support for running e-commerce operations and building data warehouses.

The upgrade also supports transactions and data processing running across databases from different suppliers, so users will be able to try it out in mixed database environments.

The beta is aimed at developers and the final version of the upgrade is expected at the end of the second quarter.
