Corporate demand for PCs helped fuel double-digit growth in the desktop and laptop markets in the third quarter of 2003, according to analyst groups Gartner and IDC.

Gartner said the European PC market grew 13% year-on-year in the third quarter, driven by stronger business demand, particularly from small and medium-sized enterprises, with price cuts pulling forward orders.

IDC, which uses a different method to Gartner to count computer shipments, said third quarter sales growth in Europe was up 18.7% compared to the same period in 2002.

Notebook sales were up 51% on last year, and desktop sales were driven by a gradual rebound in business renewals.
