IBM has secured a $194m (£133m), five-year contract to supply electronic payments vendor Total System Services with system hardware, software and services.

IBM will provide the company with eServer zSeries mainframe processors, TotalStorage 3494 Automated Tape Library and TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server, along with DB2 database applications, WebSphere Application Server and other software products.

Total System Services, one of the world's largest payment services companies, processes transactions for more than 229 million accounts across the globe.

Under the deal, IBM will help Total System Services consolidate its transaction server operations, cutting the number of servers by about 35% while increasing data processing capacity and cutting operating costs.

The latest equipment will make the company one of IBM's 25 highest-capacity clients in the US and one of its top 50 worldwide.
