Resellers are being urged to look to VPNs, VoIP and Internet access over the next year as corporate spending takes off in those areas.

New figures from IDC show corporate spending in areas around VPNs and VoIP is set to increase this year as businesses become more reliant on efficiently run converged networks.

The research group claimed 42 per cent of the European companies it contacted were using a VPN, while 19 per cent expected to use one within a year.

The group also expected growth in videoconferencing and the use of leased lines.

James Eibisch, research director of European IP and hosting services at IDC, said the survey acted as a good barometer for IT spending trends over the next year.
