Salesforce.com has launched the developer preview of Salesforce Chatter, which provides social networking capabilities on its Force.com platform.

According to Salesforce.com, Chatter allows developers using Force.com to build social media apps using just a few mouse clicks.

The Chatter platform allows developers to add user profiles, user status updates, Chatter feeds, group discussions and support for social networks in their Force.com apps. It is also integrated with the Google Developer Toolkit, which Salesforce.com said could be used to push data into a Google Spreadsheet or query a Google Calendar.

The company has also unveiled Chatter DevZone, a Chatter-powered community where developers can share ideas on building new social enterprise apps.
