Dell UK has launched three cloud-based services that it says
could help small and medium enterprises cut their IT costs by
30%.
Dell is aiming the services at firms with between one and 500
staff, said Tim Griffin, the firm's global head for SME
business.
"We know that 72% of them will have an e-mail outage this year.
We know 40% have had a security breach in the past three years, and
we know a third will have a service disruption because of a system
crash," he said.
The three service packages cover technical support, system
management and consulting. Griffin said the firm aimed to provide a
situation where customers can get on with their businesses rather
than worrying about having to fix their IT when it went wrong.
"But it has got to be value for money for the customer," Griffin
said. Customers will be able to order from a menu of customisable
services, starting with e-mail management and laptop encryption,
and to run with it for as long as they like, subject to a 30-day
notice of change.
A service that could prove popular is for Dell to monitor a
firm's IT and application usage, and take Dell's advice on how to
cut costs. Griffin believes savings of up to 30% are possible on
many SMEs' IT budgets.
Griffin said Dell would support customers' processing, storage,
networking and mobile working, no matter who the equipment or
service providers were.
