Samsung, Carphone Warehouse to open retail channel stores

Smartphone market giant signs JV agreement with Carphone Warehouse to open 60 Samsung stores in Europe

Samsung has ripped another leaf from Apple’s book and decided to open a chain of standalone retail stores in Europe, with the help of UK mobile retail kingpin the Carphone Warehouse.

The duo successfully opened three standalone stores in Spain last year as a proof of concept, and on the basis of the experiment have now opted to formalise their relationship and agreed to open “over 60” retail stores in Europe.

These will be rolled out over the next three months in seven key markets: Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

According to the blurb the stores will have a “premium look and feel” and will stock the full range of Samsung mobile gear, including laptops and wearables in addition to its established and successful smartphone and tablet products.

Samsung promised customers could expect an “exciting” experience, merging retail and technology innovations “such as Carphone Warehouse’s assisted sales tool and connectivity platform using Samsung-branded tablets.”

The agreement, which will create an unspecified number of new retail jobs in each market, includes the possibility of expansion should things go well.

Andrew Harrison, CEO of Carphone Warehouse said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as Samsung's preferred European partner for their store roll-out.

“Our Connected World Services business will combine Carphone Warehouse's retailing expertise and systems with one of the world's biggest brands and will help us make even more lives better through connected technology.”
