EMC chairman and CEO Joe Tucci said the company's "record-setting performance" was marked by customers around the world embracing the company's "cloud computing and Big Data strategies. It is our firm belief that this strategy is well-placed and underpinned with winning products and services and strategic partners".
The company reported double digit revenue growth at its EMC Information Storage business and the high-end EMC Symmetrix product portfolio. Revenue from the RSA Information Security business grew 13%.
Sales outside the US reached a record $2.3bn for EMC, contributing just under half of the company's total revenue. Latin America grew 43%, Asia Pacific was up 34% and EMEA increased by 20%.
EMC's results were published a day after VMware, a majority-owned subsidiary, reported a 37% rise in revenue to $921m and net income of $220m.
