The vendor will join the ranks of Apple, Dell and HP in the wave of tablet offerings but will pitch its Cius seven-inch product at the business user.
In many respects that's where tablets started life aimed at niche markets finding popularity among doctors, police forces and schools before Apple took the concept firmly into the consumer space with the iPad.
But as a business product the Cius would potentially be more of a channel play providing a product that can target reseller customers.
Trials of the product are kicking off in Q3 with a launch of early 2011 expected following those customer pilots.
Tony Bates, senior vice president and general manager, enterprise, commercial and small business at Cisco, said that it would be a product that would appeal to the health, retail and education markets as well as general business.
