Citrix has finalised its acquisition of German web-conferencing specialist Netviewer, which numbers Bayer, BMW, SAP, Siemens, Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom and Swisscom among its 18,000 customers, writes Ian Grant.

Netviewer will become part of Citrix's online services unit Citrix Online in an acquisition that is expected to hasten its global expansion and increase its penetration of the European SaaS market.

Netviewer's CFO Robert Gratzl has been made general manager for Citrix Online in EMEA as part of the deal.

Since starting in 2001, the company has grown to 220 staff, with most customers in continental Europe. This will complement Citrix Online's strength in the UK, Ireland and the Nordics, Citrix said in a statement.

Netviewer enables users to share their screen display live, allowing them to edit texts, do calculations, create graphics and other documents jointly.
