The role of distribution continues to be a vital one in providing resellers with the support and access to the latest technology. Despite the doom mongering a few years ago when the cloud was seen as a major threat to distribution the sector has gone from strength to strength redefining its role.
One of those that has done its fair share of evolving is Ingram Micro, which was quick to spot that to make the cloud a channel play would involve providing partners with a great deal of practical as well as technical support.
The channel player is sticking with an approach giving lots of support in its latest attempts to increase the number of partners it deals with in that are selling into the SME sector.
Ingram has set up a 'New Business Team' that will make things straightforward for those SME players that want to work with the distie.
The team has been set up at a time when the distributor has been trying to simplify its procedures to make it easier for resellers to do business with the firm.
At the same time Ingram has also launched a web site that should be easier for people to navigate and is expected to be a vast improvement on the legacy site.
Brent McCarty, vp & country chief executive for Ingram Micro UK & Ireland, said that it was just at the start of a process of revising its ways of working with partners.
“With a dedicated team supporting new business and individuals aligned to increasing efficiency through organisational change, we are committed to improving our service offering for our valued stakeholders," he said.
Some of the changes that have come into effect mean that a business, regardless of size, can apply for a trading account and those applications will be considered by the Ingram credit team.
There are also plans to roll out a loyalty programme, which will provide some extra rewards for those partners that choose to trade with Ingram Micro.
