Viglen owner and star of the BBC series The Apprentice Sir Alan Sugar is being hailed as the only man that can de-throne Boris Johnson as Mayor of London and prevent Ken Livingstone from running as Labour’s candidate.
The next election is not due until 2012 but according to reports in the Evening Standard, it is understood that Ken Clark, Labour’s London director has called Sir Alan for an “exploratory conversation” which sources said were brief and pleasant.
The man himself was not available to comment on the suggestions but according to the national, he is seen by some labour peers as the only man to take on the fluffy-haired Tory and to stop former London Mayor Livingstone from standing again.
The 61-year-old entrepreneur sold Amstrad last year - but still owns education specialist Viglen - and is the main protagonist on the reality TV show The Apprentice where he is renowned for his no-nonsense approach to contestants.
The question is, will he be firing Boris in a manner of speaking when the race for the mayoral elections kicks off?
