EMC has set a course for the midmarket after unveiling a cloud infrastructure range that is designed specifically for customers that might have shied away from its enterprise offering.
The vendor's Vspex product provides the infrastructure to underpin a move to cloud computing and has been designed in conjunction with Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Brocade and VMware and should appeal to those that found the Vblock didn't quite fit their requirements.
The initial approach resellers will be advised to take with the Vspex is to pitch it at midmarket customers wanting to make the move into the private cloud or develop an infrastructure to cope with the demands of consumerisation.
Andy Hough, vice president, mid tier sales EMEA at EMC, said that the channel would be the route to market for the product and it was providing branding opportunities on the product for partners to promote themselves to the customer.
"This is a major step in EMC embracing the channel and we have listened and changed and are embracing partnerships," he said.
He added that the channel had been involved in the development of the product and it was confident that a large number of partners would get behind selling it.
