Trend Micro is putting plenty of resources into providing ransomware cover for customers and arming its channel with the tools that will help customers cope with the latest security problems.
The vendor has provided an update into the current landscape in its third quarter results and talked up the prospects for ransomware in the current market.“Trend Micro’s commitment to help digital users protect themselves against advanced security threats takes shape in our collaborations with our customers, law enforcement and business partners,” said Eva Chen, CEO, Trend Micro.
“This quarter, we delivered on that pledge by developing additional ransomware protection tools, such as a free phone hotline and an online ransomware resource center…and we expanded our enterprise products’ integration through strong new business partnerships,” added Chen.
The hotline was set up and open for any customers, Trend or otherwise, to call for help and has been running for the past few months.
The security vendor’s performance in the three months ended 30 September saw it deliver sales of 31,324 million Yen ($306m) and net income of 5,100 million Yen ($49m).
Ransomware has become a hot topic in the security industry over the past six months with an increasing number of customers being hit and vendors coming under pressure to help come up with a solution.
It is guaranteed to continue to be one of the areas of investment in 2017 as customers of all sizes look to protect themselves from the problem.
In its next year predictions blog Check Point highlighted the increasing frequency of ransomware attacks that are expected.
“For enterprises, ransomware will become as prevalent as DDoS attacks, the prevention of which is a cost of doing business. Given ransomware’s success, enterprises will have to employ a multi-faceted prevention strategy, including advanced sandboxing and threat extraction, in order to effectively protect their networks,” stated the firm.
