Polycom buys video management firm Accordent

Video communications vendor Polycom has forked out $50m in cash to buy California-headquartered video content management and delivery specialist Accordant.

Video communications vendor Polycom has forked out $50m in cash to buy California-headquartered video content management and delivery specialist Accordent.

Accordent's video capture software will be folded into Polycom's UC Intelligent Core and UC endpoints, with sales reported as part of Polycom's network infrastructure revenues, while the firm itself will in future report to its R&D operation.

Citing figures from Wainhouse Research, Polycom claimed that the acquisition would increase its available market by $500m, as well as enhancing its relationship with Microsoft on Lync and Sharepoint.

"We believe Accordent has the most elegant video content management solution on the market, and by leveraging cutomer, channel partner and product synergies ... this poisition sus at the forefront of end-to-end video and content management," said Polycom CDO Sudhakar Ramakrishna.

The small acquisition is expected to be neutral to 2011 earnings and slightly accretive next year.
