BigTec signs up storage player Cloudian

BigTec has become Cloudian's first EMEA value added distributor as the storage specialist looks for further channel growth

Cloudian has signed up next generation datacentre specialist BigTec as its first value added distribution partner covering the EMEA/APAC region.

The deal with Cloudian adds cloud storage to the mix for BigTec and enables the distributor, which has gained a name for developing solutions that partners can take out to customers, to add the vendor's HyperStore cloud storage platform to the portfolio.

As well as being able to provide petabyte hybrid cloud solutions the timing of the Cloudian deal comes at a moment when more customers are looking to get on top of data management because of the looming European GDPR compliance regulations.

“There are a growing number of enterprise customers that use global S3 object storage services. Thanks to Cloudian’s HyperStore they now have the opportunity to place that storage capability in their own datacentre premises, or to host it with a local, UK cloud service provider," said Jason Dance, managing director at BigTec UK.

"This overcomes the data sovereignty issues that surround compliance measures like GDPR, and provides predictable cost and modular scalability,” he added "Not only is HyperStore fully in step with the BigTec philosophy of compliant, automated, simplified, low opex, high scalability datacentre operations, but there are also outstanding synergies with the rest of our BigTec solution stack, NEO.”

Some of the links that can be made between the vendors in the BigTec portfolio are already in place with Cloudian working closely with data management player Rubrik.

“We see major opportunities around solving NAS data sprawl, and radically reducing the cost of storing cool primary data.  In fact, any requirement to reduce the cost-per-terabyte of storage or leverage the superscale capacity of object stores is a potential win," said Dance.

From the Cloudian perspective the decision to sign BigTec is part of a move to increase its presence in EMEA and work with more channel partners.

“We are committed to supporting high quality partners that understand the possibilities of scale-out object storage, both in the UK and across the entire EMEA/APAC BigTec footprint.  There is rapidly increasing demand for our fully S3-compliant hybrid cloud storage solutions; the time is right and BigTec is uniquely equipped to enable our anticipated partner and customer growth," said Jacco van Achterberg, EMEA Director at Cloudian.
