VCE, the Virtual Computing Environment Company set up last yeat by EMC, Cisco and VMware, has appointed Magirus as its first EMEA distribution partner.

Magirus already has a track record selling the vendor's technologies and knows its way round the vBlock infrastructure platform, which integrates the technology of the three vendors.

Under the terms of the deal the distributor will be able to sell vBlock across Europe and the Middle East and will work with resellers that are joining the recently launched VCE partner programme.

Christian Magirus, executive vice-president and COO at Magirus, was upbeat about the deal and revealed it had been working with the company in the run-up to the deal being inked for a few months.

"We have worked with VMware, Cisco and EMC for many years and have been working closely with VCE for several months," he said.

"At a stroke, VCE gets a partner with experience and expertise in the European data centre market, a large pan-European channel footprint of more than 6,000 resellers, as well as a strong channel enablement capability," he added.

Magirus has been given responsibility for growing the channel as well as helping VCE hit its market share ambitions.

"Magirus shares our vision of building a strong European channel, where resellers remove complexity from the equation for customers wanting to virtualise their data centres and plan for tomorrow's cloud-based world," said D Martin, VCE vice president of global channels.

"Currently, reliability, robustness, security and lack of control are top of mind concerns for those considering virtualising their data centre or deploying private cloud solutions. vBlock platforms address these concerns head-on and come pre-integrated and validated with a single point of support from VCE," he added.

VCE has also appointed Avnet in the US as a distributor in America and Canada as it looks to build its global channel.
