KCOM fundraisers add £17k to Prince’s Trust coffers

Cross-country fundraiser sees KCOM teams raise over £17,000 to support The Prince’s Trust

Two KCOM teams have collectively raised over £17,000 for The Prince’s Trust Million Makers competition, helping young disadvantaged people across the company, as part of a commitment to bank £100,000 for the charity.

The Million Makers challenge sees teams create and run an entrepreneurial initiative for six months, and KCOM, which been a patron of the trust since 2012, entered one team based at its Exeter hub – Eclipse – and another from its East Yorkshire home.

In Eclipse’s case, the team developed an app for their customers and carried out other fundraising activities including car boot sales and a Halloween gala, said unit MD Clodagh Murphy.

“Throughout the challenge, I've been blown away by the dedication of the team and it’s been a real pleasure to see them grow in confidence and develop their skills,” she said.

KCOM CFO Paul Simpson added: “The Yorkshire and Humber team came up with some great ideas to raise money, including a silent auction and a Christmas party for employees, friends and business contacts. Million Makers is a fantastic initiative for us to be involved with and fits in with our business focus on innovation and creative thinking.”

The Prince’s Trust’s Sarah Church commented: “We’re delighted that KCOM Group has been inspired to go above and beyond to raise more than £17,000 for The Prince’s Trust. Not only will it help us to continue delivering programmes to support young people, by giving them the skills they need to succeed, but it will also provide one to one mentoring for young people that will boost their confidence.
