Avast has taken the decision to sign Northamber as part of an ambition to increase its channel sales this year by adding a third distributor to the roster.
The security specialist acquired AVG last summer and is now looking to move its anti virus business forward with the product portfolios and strategy now aligned.
Northamber will be handling the AVG small business products, which include CloudCare and Managed Workplace, which provide remote monitoring and management.
Pat McKay, UK sales manager at Avast, said that Northamber had a reach into thousands of resellers and had already developed some security expertise.
"This is part of a growth strategy but we need to help them to be successful as well. They are new, big, excited and good but we still need to support them," he said.
He added that for those resellers looking to try to differentiate themselves the security option was the one that gave them the chance to stand out.
"Security is going to be the one they evolve with and we will support those who develop their managed service offering and help them open new doors. We don't see in a lot of programmes an education budget," he added that it was taking a different approach with its distribution partners.
Northamber joins CMS and Sigma Software Distribution, which was signed up by the vendor last September, as the firm's UK distie partners.
Alex Phillips, director of strategy at Northamber, said that it would be delivering the AVG range out to resellers and adding it to its existing security portfolio.
“Northamber is thrilled to introduce AVG to our channel customers as we see a great opportunity for both our reseller and MSP partners to benefit from the range of products that AVG offers," he added "Adding AVG to Northamber’s existing security solutions ensures we will always have the right solution for the customer.”
