Fortinet has responded to the growth in the number of resellers that are now classing themselves as managed security service providers (MSSPs) with a fresh programme for those partners.
The security player has supported MSPs in the past but this is a specific MSSP programme. Fortinet will provide those signing up with access to its developer network, APIs and tools that were originally for internal use. There will also be online training plus marketing and sales support.
The number of MSSPs has continued to increase as security resellers move themselves into a position to increase their monthly recurring revenue.
“Facing an increasingly hostile threat landscape, businesses of all sizes are struggling to ensure the security of their sensitive data and technology investments. These challenges are driving many organizations to seek out security service providers that have the technical expertise and advanced security offerings that can meet their unique business requirements," said Stephan Tallent, senior director, managed security service providers at Fortinet.
"Fortinet’s new MSSP Program reinforces our ongoing investments and continued dedication to the success of our MSSP partners and the security of their customers,” he added.
The MSSP programme is a natural evolution on former MSP efforts, which were ramped up last summer and supported through the hiring of additional staff by the vendor.
Back last summer when Fortinet started to increase managed services support it quoted forecasts from IDC, which views managed security specialists representing the fastest growing segment in the market.
"MSS is the fastest growing segment of the security market. This primarily results from the lack of in-house resources required to address the triple-threat driving the security industry: the evolving threat landscape, mounting regulatory requirements, and growing digital transformation,” said Dominic Trott, research manager, IDC European Security.
There are several elements to the Fortinet MSSP programme:
The Fortinet Developer Network - a developer-only portal for official API documentation, community-developed tools, advanced scripts, and how-to content to help MSSPs automate certain parts of a solution
FortiConverter - a policy migration tool that simplifies and automates the migration process
FortiDeploy - a bulk provisioning tool that automates the simultaneous roll out of FortiGate, FortiWiFi, and FortiAP solutions with a single-click
FortiPortal - a cloud-based, single-pane-of-glass for MSSPs to manage all their customer networks
