Symantec picked up VeriSign last week as the scramble to seize the high ground in the smart phone security market picked up pace and the undisclosed deal with Trust Digital will cover some of the same functionality allowing users to secure data sent to and from mobile devices.
The aim of the acquisition is to combine Trust Digital's smart phone security with McAfee's endpoint protection to enable and encourage more firms to hand staff mobile working opportunities.
Dave DeWalt, president and CEO of McAfee, said that the acquisition would extend its reach "beyond the traditional endpoint, addressing the rapidly expanding mobile security market".
"Through this acquisition, we believe McAfee can expand its reach into new markets, secure new platforms," he added.
McAfee is currently moving its channel programme to encourage resellers to take more than just its core anti-virus products and partners will have to have gone through that transition in time for October.
