World Trade Register - is it a con?

Here's a question for you. What would you do if you received an unsolicited email stating that "in order to have your company inserted into the World Trade Register's 2011/2012 directory, please print, complete and return the enclosed to the following address" and which had at the end a ta

Here's a question for you.

What would you do if you received an unsolicited email stating that "in order to have your company inserted into the World Trade Register's 2011/2012 directory, please print, complete and return the enclosed to the following address" and which had at the end a tag which said "updating is free"?

Would you do as you were asked, thinking it could do no harm as the deal mentioned no charges? Or would you junk the email?

A round of applause to those who say they would reach for the delete button. It appears that we're looking at a very well put together round robin which lulls its victims into a three year, €995 per annum contract.

The detail is in small, hard to read, print at the end and nicely proves the point that you really should read every word before you sign something.

You have been warned.

Agreed with many websites - this is a con trick. They dupe you into signing up and in the small print they charge you €995 and keep sending reminder letters. DO NOT PAY ANTHING THEY ARE FRAUDSTERS THEY CANNOT ENFORCE ANY LAW THAT WOULD MAKE YOU PAY.

DO NOT SIGN! COST IS 995 EUROS PER YEAR. 3 Year Contract!!

We know them almost 15 years already. They used to call themselves Data Construct. They contact every firm that participates in any fair, and sometimes make you believe they are affiliates to the fair organizer. Those who sign blindly are later contacted by their "lawyers" and required to pay. They worked from Austria and or east european countries. Now from the Netherlands. And they earn pretty good money from people's carelessness!

Hello people. We are from Mifaco furniture company in Vietnam. I have just received this application too. My boss asked me to fill in and send to them. Then I checked, My God! An online trick. Very clearly to realize it was a fraud because I did nothing to them but we provide free service. Surely it's very suspicious and we have to find out.

Hi people, Just keep the conception : " Money does not grow on tree" So no one would do something free for you. If they say free, they will have another way to pierce your pocket. Please doubt first if someone says he wants to bring you some profit.

I just received a reminder to pay up. I never received an invoice. The 995 euro is printed in very small fonts. There is no way way I can pay this.

Here's what I'd do, Google 'World Trade Register' (which I did), find your incredibly helpful post (which I did), then go back to my outlook and delete the email (which I'm about to!). Thanks for taking the time to post this help out there.

Unfortunately I signed the document and I am now being threatened with emails and bills. Thank God I found this website. I am now ignoring all their e-mails and calls. From Dominican Republic.

I am another clever person who sign their form without ready the small letter … my I ignore their invoices ?

Adam Bernstein, are you a fool or just illiterate? Of course it is "unsolicited email" if not, would you ask for their email ? The email clearly states "updates free of charge" not the whole thing. Of course a business needs to charge for their services. Don't you charge for yours? Or are you a philanthropist? I think not.
