Further to a posting on BusinessMan on 29 November, the Government has now published the draft form of the Employment Equality (Repeal of Retirement Age Provisions) Regulations 2011.

The legislation, if passed, will apply from 6 April 2011 and will make it unlawful and unfair to retire anyone because of their age. It excludes any presently legal retirement process that started before 6th April which leads to a retirement before 1 October.

Employers who have staff in mind that they'd like to retire before 1 October had better get their skates on if they want to manage older staff without being fettered by legislation.
