In another move to enhance workers' rights, the Government has announced that the right to request flexible working will be extended to the parents of children under 18 years old from April 2011.

True to form, a consultation paper will be published before the year is out.
As the law presently stands, only parents of children under 17 or disabled children under 18 have the right to request flexible working.
To be able to ask for flexible working, the parent must have worked continuously for the employer for more than 26 weeks.
Of course businesses don't have to grant the request, but they must consider it carefully lest they end up in a Tribunal.
