Buck,-Julian-(Version-One).jpg What is the best/worst advice you have received and from whom?
The best: "You can never over-prepare." From Dave Fawcett, my first boss at Comshare. The worst: "Just wing it, you'll be fine." I'll leave that one anonymous.

What is the best book you have ever read?
I have to say 1984 by George Orwell. How can anyone predict the future so accurately?

Tell us something most people do not know about you
I once had purple hair.

What temptation can you not resist?
I can resist everything if I tempt myself sufficiently with something else. I do deals with myself all the time.

What is your most elusive goal?
A hole in one at golf - one day.

Where is the one place you would like to visit before you die?
Egypt, so I can form my own opinion about why the pyramids were built.

What do you just have to do before you die?
There are a lot actually. I have always wanted to windsurf the English Channel, attend a World Cup final (preferably seeing England beat Germany), run a five-minute mile and write a book. My biggest wish, though, would be to see my beloved Nottingham Forest win away at Manchester United again. I have seen this a couple of times (I'm showing my age now), but I want to see it again.

Which bit of technology would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
An iPhone with a lifetime subscription to Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3.

Who helped you get to where you are today?
My mum. She was always my inspiration and number one fan.

What was your first car and how does it compare with what you drive now?
The first car I bought when I was a penniless teenager was a Renault Fuego. I loved that car, although the automatic windows only ever went down - I could never get them back up again, which proved somewhat restrictive. These days I drive a car with windows that go both up and down, but I don't love it half as much as I loved that Fuego.

What do you believe in most?
You get out what you put in.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with?
Jack Dee.

Describe yourself in one sentence
Uncomplicated, positive, humorous and human.

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be?
I have always envied Noel Gallagher for the talent he has. However, I don't think I would be able to put up with Liam, so I'll go for Nigel Doughty, the owner and chairman of Nottingham Forest FC, instead.

Why are you good at your job?
Because I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I know the people who might.

Name three items (smaller than a fridge) you would like to have with you if you were shipwrecked
An e-book reader preloaded with every book ever written, an iPod with the entire iTunes database preloaded, and a satellite phone.

If a grizzly bear and a silverback gorilla decided to have a no-holds-barred fight, which would you put your money on?
Silverback gorilla. It might not be as strong, but its sharper intelligence would outwit the grizzly. A case of brains over brawn.

Do you prefer cities or the countryside?
Cities, just. I like to escape to the countryside, but soon wonder what I might be missing and head back to the city.

Describe your perfect night out
Any night I am in the company of people who make me laugh.

Your perfect holiday?
Snowboarding anywhere apart from Tamworth Snowdome.

Sum up the IT channel in one sentence
The UK channel's great strength is in its ability to find the right solutions to suit ever-changing business requirements and opportunities.
