Wavenet adds UC muscle with Solar Communications buy

As the last days of summer come to an end there has still been time for Wavenet to add to what has been a long list of deals struck over the last few weeks

Over the summer there has been a wave of consolidation across the channel that has underlined that the message about the need to evolve has been fully taken on board.

Adding to an already long list is the move by business telco player Wavenet to acquire Solar Communications Group for an undisclosed sum.

The addition of Solar will bolster the unified comms offering that Wavenet can deliver and increase its competitive position in the managed services market.

Solar also comes with experience in the SD-WAN area, which is being tipped as a major growth area. The two businesses combined will be able to boast a UK customer base that reaches 10,000 businesses.

Both firms have been adding to their capabilities through acquisition in the last couple of years with each buying four businesses.

“Solar is an extremely capable and exciting business with a very talented team. Its combination with Wavenet will provide added depth to the innovative and business enhancing services provided to both sets of customers," said Bill Dawson CEO of Wavenet.

“Solar has been successful developing the platform, people and services required for growing the business both organically and by acquisition. This has accelerated its transition from being a leading telephone system reseller in the UK, into becoming a fully managed cloud service provider, able to provide superlative technology and a fully managed service," he added.

In response, Solar Communications CEO John Whitty, who will remain with the business and join the executive board, said that the decision to become acquired came after a couple of years of working hard to grow the business.

“Following an intensive 30 months of growing our business into a successful and agile organisation, the time is right to take the next step and allow our customers to benefit from our significant joint capability and experience in the UC market," he said.

“The introduction of Wavenet’s award winning network, Cisco and extensive networking expertise into our base, will improve our converged solutions and their automated platform will bring benefits to delivering our services to our customers," he added.
