Trams celebrates 30 years

Reseller reaches milestone and reflects on its history, with its people getting the nod for helping the firm prosper over three decades

One of the longest-standing resellers, Trams, is celebrating three decades of business this month – and is already looking to the future.

The firm regularly graced the pages of the old print copies of MicroScope back in the 1990s thanks to its position as an Apple authorised reseller, making it one of the handful of partners in London that represented the vendor. The firm added more muscle to its position in that segment with the acquisition of Cancom’s activities in that segment back in 2012.

Over the years, Trams has added to its number of vendor relationships, including accreditations from the likes of Dell, Cisco, Quantum, HPe and Lenovo.

“Our reputation and performance has been built on our clients’ confidence in Trams’ dedicated and experienced colleagues, together with strong and lasting relationships with our manufacturer partners,” said Warren Peel, managing director of Trams. “Without our valued staff and clients, this 30-year milestone would not have been possible.”

The anniversary comes at a strange time, with the world continuing to react to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Peel said the business had looked to act as a trusted adviser for its customers during the crisis.

“Despite the challenges of Covid-19, Trams is committed to working closely with its customers to ensure delivery of reliable IT solutions, making the financial, logistical and technological challenges of a ‘work anywhere’ workforce possible,” he said.

Thanks to its Apple heritage, Trams has always had a strong background in the media and entertainment market, but over the years it has also added expertise in other verticals, including the finance, education and energy sectors.

The reseller’s vendor partners were quick to praise it for reaching its latest milestone and commented on its commitment to the market.

“Trams has always demonstrated the highest competencies in front of our most demanding media and entertainment customers, served by an amazing team of skilled and committed professionals,” said Anniek Snauwaert, sales director, EMEA M&E at Quantum.

The firm also shared a comment from customer SkyBet: “Trams has been the perfect partner for us in terms of supplying the services we ask of them. From hardware/software to cloud services, we have been extremely happy with the Trams performance and feel very well looked after.”

On a personal note

Trams was one of the first companies I ever interviewed after joining MicroScope and picking up the Apple channel beat. The then managing director, Hugo Kirby, was one of my first ever face-to-face meetings and introduced me to the world of Apple resellers and the wider channel in general. He provided me with pointers that have stayed with me throughout my time covering the industry.
