Kaseya expands security reach with RocketCyber buy

MSP specialist continues to add more depth to its platform offering with a cloud-managed SOC now integrated into the portfolio

Managed services specialist Kaseya has continued its strategy of investing in its platform approach by picking up RocketCyber.

The plan will be to take the RocketCyber cloud-agent security operations centre (SOC) and make it available on the Kaseya IT Complete platform.

Speaking to MicroScope at the start of the year, Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola indicated that the company would make acquisitions this year to continue to add depth to the platform. He said it wanted to make sure that before RocketCyber was unveiled as the first move of 2021, it had integrated the technology into the platform.

“Our strategy has been one platform to make the technician more efficient, and so you can charge less for the kit and allow more money for the MSP,” said Voccola.

His comments about RocketCyber revealed Kaseya’s ambition to add more depth to the security area, which has become one of the primary areas of business for MSPs during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The addition of RocketCyber makes Kaseya IT Complete the only integrated platform in the market to deliver managed SOC, automated internal threat detection, credential monitoring, anti-phishing and more for a truly comprehensive, end-to-end cyber security suite that tackles all of today’s modern-day threats,” he said.

“With this acquisition, we have doubled down on our security investments to provide our customers with access to experts who can continuously monitor their IT environments without the cost and complexity of disparate tools.”

RocketCyber will add more functionality to IT Complete with it being integrated with Kaseya VSA to allow SOC deployment, working with BMS to become the primary ticketing interface for security incidents and with the link-up with Passly, it provides a single sign-on to the service.

RocketCyber will continue to operate as an independent unit, run by its CEO and co-founder, Carl Banzhof. The task ahead will be to get the managed SOC capability that the platform can now offer in front of more managed service partners.

“When Billy Austin and I came together to found RocketCyber, our mission was to bring high-end cyber security capabilities to the masses and safeguard organisations against the onslaught of cyber attacks and cyber criminals,” said Banzhof.

“RocketCyber is the culmination of our combined 50-plus years of experience in creating intrusion detection, vulnerability, risk and compliance technologies. In the end, Kaseya was the clear choice for us with its rich security platform. Now that our products are deeply integrated, MSPs and SMEs can protect themselves against all attack vectors and sleep soundly at night.”
