The three main political parties have published their manifestos and all contain commitments that would create huge challenges for IT professionals working in the public sector.

Promises of greater efficiency in the public sector particularly depend on having IT skills to make them deliverable, according to Philip Virgo, strategic adviser at the Institute for the Management of Information Systems.

Virgo said it was now up to the IT industry to ensure that politicians understand the processes that must be put in place to ensure IT can deliver those savings.
