UPS the remedy as South East suffers high rates of blackouts
Resellers pitching uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) should find a receptive customer base in the South East as the area suffers more blackouts than anywhere else in the UK.
With the cost of a blackout costing businesses anywhere between £12,676 and £316,900 for the third that take a day or more to recover the South East was the worst effected area suffering 20% of all outages.
The figures have emerged from the latest Blackout Tracker report from Eaton Power Quality show that not all of the problems firms have are a direct result of electricity supply problems with copper thefts now also triggering blackouts.
In another example of the unpredictability of power provision 544 people in Scotland ended up in a blackout after a flock of geese flew into power lines.
Armed with these examples and figures of potential losses Paul Norgate from Eaton said that resellers should be pitching a UPS solution to provide insurance against potential problems.
"The report demonstrates that the best way for businesses to protect themselves is to develop a power protection plan which will help mitigate against the significant losses a power outage can bring," he said.
