School children learn about IT with IBM at Hursley House
Date: Mar 28, 2012To tie in with National Science & Engineering Week, IBM invited secondary school children to its laboratory at Hursley House to spend a few days learning about IT.
The four-day event, held at the home of the WW2 Spitfire, gave the children hands-on experience of IT. They worked as teams to solve problems and played role-based games to help them appreciate good security practices.
Kate Bittles, community programme manager at IBM, said: "There's lots of competitions and games. This year's theme is 'world in motion'."
In this video, Tom Banks, a software engineer at IBM, demonstrated a few of the games that ran during the event. He said: "Robo Rescue uses a [Microsoft Kinect] sensor to display human figures on the screen. Two students are controlling robots in a damaged building."
