The EDSAC Clock Pulse Generator

Source:  TNMOC

Peter Lawrence, an original user of the EDSAC in the 1950s, describes the EDSAC Clock Pulse Generator and Digit Pulse Generator circuits. These provide the central heartbeat to the rest of the machine. The clock pulse generator beats at 500,000 times a second and sends a "word" pulse every 36 beats to signal the first digit of the 36 in an EDSAC word.  The digit pulse generator (of which there will eventually be 7) forwards pulses for each digit in the word to other parts of the machine.
