Windows 8 is the first Windows OS that has been designed from the bottom-up for the touch user interface. Microsoft is hoping to attract people currently buying iOS-based iPads and Android-based tablets to rival Windows 8 devices like this Acer Revo tablet.

The new Microsoft operating system represents the highest level of collaboration across the industry, according to Steven Sinofsky, head of the Windows Group.
