Review of IntelliJ IDEA, a Java IDE

Extensibility with plugins

Source:  JetBrains

The IDEA platform is extensible with plug-ins, of which there are a large number. It is possible to deactivate plug-ins which are not in use, to reduce bloat in the IDE. A default install of IDEA, even in the Ultimate edition, does not install all the available plug-ins. Others are available from the official IntelliJ repository, or enterprises can create their own custom repositories. The official repository includes download counts and user ratings, and currently offers nearly 700 plug-ins from IntelliJ and third parties. For example, those working with Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) can find a plug-in which lets you start or manage EC2 virtual machine instances from within IDEA.
