Gloucestershire County Council replaces Capita with Steria to transform IT delivery

By null

Gloucestershire County Council has signed a five-year ICT managed service contract with Steria to support a major change to IT delivery.

Under the agreement, all staff employed at the council by incumbent supplier Capita will transfer to Steria.

The council expects to gain savings in excess of 25% from the contract, which begins in April.

Steria will move the council to a virtualised ICT platform to provide scalability and flexibility.

Gloucestershire County Council will benefit from a flexible charging model that can flex up or down based on its demand for ICT services.

Steria will invest in the local community as part of the deal. It will fund growth initiatives in the region, such as apprenticeships for local young people, business advisory seminars for local SMEs, and school technology projects.

“Gloucestershire County Council has been working hard to transform the way we work and make savings across the council. I’m confident we have in Steria a cost-effective, flexible, modern and reliable ICT provider with a track record of helping public sector organisations modernise their ways of working,” said councillor Ray Theodoulou, cabinet member for finance and change.

Steria is building a big customer base in the UK public sector.

It recently won a public sector contract to set up a back-office shared services company, Shared Services Connected Ltd, with the government, which will benefit from the experience Steria gained working on the successful NHS shared business service (SBS).

Steria will take a 75% share in the joint venture and the government 25%. A total of 1,200 staff in government departments have transferred to the new organisation.
