Essex CC sets upon IT transformation project after £16.6m deal with Fujitsu

By Caroline Baldwin

Essex County Council has partnered with Fujitsu as part of a £16.6m deal to transform its corporate systems estate.

The contract will enable the council to replace current disjointed IT systems, which are over 30 years old, and will support the council’s financial strategy to save £235m over the next three years.

“These new, highly efficient, systems, which we aim to have up and running within the next financial year, will remove frustrating and unnecessary administration, duplication and repetition,” said Cllr Derrick Louis, Essex County Council’s cabinet member for corporate services and transformation.

Fujitsu will implement a fully managed service covering Oracle E-Business Suite, Hyperion, OBIEE and Taleo to integrate and modernise the council’s ERP environment and enable the council to operate more efficiently and expand its services to other public bodies in the UK.

The new Oracle-based back office IT structure will lead to extra system capacity to offer shared services to schools, libraries and other public bodies outside of Essex CC, which will generate extra revenue.

“Not only will there be significant savings over the coming years, this investment shows our commitment to making lasting changes to the way we deliver top quality services for the benefit of our residents and businesses. For example, it will soon be much easier for companies to do business with us as we streamline our online financial processes,” said Louis.
