Gibson will join the team in April, and will report directly to the chief executive officer, John Hardie.

The appointment comes after former director of technology, Keith Cass, retires after 34 years at the public service news provider.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining ITN at this exciting time for the company and the news media as a whole,” said Bevan Gibson. “ITN has a long heritage of technical excellence and I look forward to being part of the next chapter of that innovation. There is huge opportunity to be realised for ITN during this period of accelerated pace of change in news gathering and digital media.”

Gibson’s previous position was the head of operations and technology – Sky Creative at BskyB. He led the teams responsible for infrastructure and workflows within the department. Over the ten years spent at the broadcaster, Gibson worked as head of future technology and launch director for Sky News Arabia, as well as broadcast engineering specialist within broadcast services.

Prior to joining Sky, Bevan held positions at Orad UK and in Australia at the Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organisation, Nine Network and Seven Network.
