Territorial Army on the hunt for information assurance professionals

By Kayleigh Bateman

The Territorial Army (TA) is on the hunt for information assurance professionals to join its Land Information Assurance Group (LIAG).

The LIAG is a TA unit which recruits IT security professionals into the Royal Signals. LIAG is part of the Specialist Group Royal Signals (SGRS), which works with the Army, RAF and Navy in various locations worldwide.

As the Ministry of Defence (MoD) continues to invest in its cyber capability, it is growing the number of cyber operations officers holding the Queen’s commission in the LIAG.

The British Army recently launched a broadcasting series, showing soldiers live from operations, to show the TA working simultaneously with UK troops.

The TA Live recruitment drive was launched to demonstrate the full range of opportunities on offer in the TA, as it is in need of 6,000 new recruits this year.

The MoD aims to increase TA recruits to 30,000 by 2018. Over the next 10 years, it plans to invest an additional £1.8bn to improve TA soldiers’ training and equipment.

Major General Ranald Munro, deputy commander Land Forces (Reserves), said: “TA Live is an incredibly exciting opportunity to bring the TA to life and show just what a TA soldier does on the ground. We think this is a great way to demonstrate and educate the public about the role of the TA and its contribution to the UK Armed Forces. There are plenty of people in Great Britain and Northern Ireland who can play a key role in shaping the future of the Army.

“The TA is a vital component of the UK Armed Forces, making a major contribution to the defence and security of the nation. Over the past 15 years, the TA has provided more than 28,000 individuals to support the regular Army on operations, principally, but not exclusively, in Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Anyone from the age of 18 upwards can apply to join the TA.
